Q: How does Learn To Be tutoring work? A: Learn To Be tutoring is free online tutoring that uses audio and a virtual whiteboard. Students arrive at the website and request a session for their desired subject and grade level. Once the tutoring session is established, the student and tutor meet in an online “classroom” with a virtual whiteboard. The tutor and the student communicate via audio and the virtual whiteboard. Interaction with the virtual whiteboard is best achieved through the use of a computer tablet and a digital pen that is connected to the student’s computer. Using a standard mouse is also compatible. The virtual whiteboard offers features that allow the tutor and the student to analyze, solve, and discuss problems and solutions across various subject areas. One feature includes the ability for users to upload and review documents such as homework sheets, drawings, tables, etc. All tutoring sessions are recorded and stored in our database so the student can review them at a later time.
Q: How is Learn To Be tutoring different than other tutoring options? A: Online tutoring through Learn To Be is not only educational but also fun for students. Most students have not experienced online tutoring and find it more engaging than in-person tutoring, particularly because our tutors interact and connect well with a younger audience. This encourages students to access our sessions more often and develop a stronger interest in learning. Learn To Be tutoring is safe and efficient. Sessions are scheduled instantly, without appointment, and they occur without the student and tutor ever meeting in person. Finally, Learn To Be Tutoring is free. Students should never have to pay to learn, and by leveraging the power of the Internet, students have access to a network of free and readily available tutors.
Q: Who can receive free tutoring? A: Learn To Be provides tutoring to students in elementary and middle school (Grades K-8) in math, science, and language arts. Some assistance is also available for grades 9-12, as well as social studies and college readiness, but these subject areas are mostly limited to our Priority Hours. Any student with a computer and Internet access can receive free tutoring sessions.
Q: When are free tutoring sessions available? A: Learn To Be is available between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. Pacific Standard Time. To see tutor availability, click here.
Q: Do I need to schedule a tutoring session in advance? A: No appointments are necessary. When students need tutoring, they can immediately receive free help by logging into their account and starting a session.
Q: Who are the tutors? A: Tutors are carefully selected through an extensive application process to ensure a safe and quality learning experience for students. Our tutors are predominately college students and young adults with exceptional academic backgrounds. Unlike other online tutoring services, our tutors are primarily educated in the United States. Learn To Be Tutors are selected based not only on intelligence, but more importantly on character and personality, with the ability to interact and connect with younger students a top priority. Prospective tutors are required to first submit an application. Qualified applicants are then offered an interview and must pass a mock tutoring session for each subject area that they wish to tutor. If the applicant performs well in the mock session and meets the standard of Learn To Be Tutors, we will then offer certification at this time. Tutors are certified in individual subject areas. All tutors are subjected to a mandatory background check. Become a Certified Learn To Be Tutor.
Q: How much does Learn To Be cost? A: Absolutely nothing. We provide students with access to our online tutoring services for free. Access to the building blocks of education should always be free. Currently, we also try to provide our partner schools and tutors with equipment such as the digital pen tablets and headsets.
Q: How can you offer all this for free? A: Thanks to the generous support of our donors and the help of our volunteers, we are currently able to provide our services and equipment for free. However, the Learn To Be Foundation relies on donations to make all this possible and your continued support is appreciated. Q: On the Start Session page, there is a field that says 'Passcode'. What does that mean? A. The passcode is required when we are working with students from our specific partner schools. We use this passcode to ensure that our partner schools obtain tutoring during those time slots.
Q: Can you help students with learning disabilities? A. Our tutors are screened for patience and they adjust to whatever the speed of learning the student is comfortable with. We also have experience matching kids and adults with learning disabilities to specific mentors. Please contact us and arrange for special attention when needed.

On Mac and Linux systems, and in rare instances with Windows, when using our WiZiQ whiteboard there could be a Allow/Deny window that is unresponsive.
