Laila, a curious and observant 11-year-old, loved spending her Saturdays at the cozy Lakeside Diner. It was her favorite spot to enjoy a stack of pancakes and a cup of hot chocolate while people-watching.

One particularly chilly morning, Laila noticed a well-dressed man enter the diner and take a seat at the counter. He seemed agitated and kept glancing around the room.
