Please describe your student and why you qualify for tutoring.
Elliott is a very sweet kid, he was diagnosed with ADHD in the 1st grade. After finding the right combination of medication and therapy for him he began to excel in school. He was an excellent student with many friends all the way through to 5th grade. We moved and he started at a new school in 6th grade. This is when things started to get rough for him, he began to get bullied and really had a hard time adjusting to the new school’s style of teaching. This year, he’s begun to show signs of getting back to his happy, healthy and confident self. However math continues to be difficult for him. He is truly a great kid, he loves books and reads to his little brothers from time to time. He is a natural born researcher and can be relentless when it comes to learning everything when a subject catches his interest. He is very witty and has a big heart, he loves animals and is our family’s expert on insects. Being that Elliott is the oldest of 4 boys (at home), it can be really hard to have a long enough stretch of time to dedicate to homework help. I’m also not very familiar with the more current ways of learning math so I have struggled in being able to offer help. I do work full time but am home evenings and weekends. We know 7th grade is very important to high schools and we want to see him get into a great school where he will continue to grow into his greatness. We really want to see him find some confidence in himself and his abilities and I am dedicated to learning and growing with him.
What are your greatest hopes for your student?
I really want to see his confidence come back. I hope he is able to see in himself what his family and teachers see in him. Our goal is to get him into the local math and science academy.
What are you most grateful for?
I’m most grateful for my children, they’ve taught me to be humble, appreciative and how to love unconditionally. I’m also grateful for second chances, we all need help getting back on track from time to time.
