Please describe your student and why you qualify for tutoring.
Michelle is a very sweet 10 year old girl who has been struggling with math over the past two years. She is quite timid and will not relay her struggles verbally, or seek clarification. She was diagnosed with PTSD and ADHD in early 2016. She currently has a 504 plan. Michelle is an excellent artist, enjoys drawing, playing basketball, Minecraft on her tablet, and she is currently apart of her school's run club. Michelle is the fourth child of five. She and her siblings were taken from their home in 2014 and placed in Foster Care. I have taken her and her younger sister into my care as of 2014, and am their paternal Uncle. I am Active Duty military, I have an 18 year old daughter that lives with us and my mother, their grandmother also lives with us. I have tried assisting Michelle on several occasions but the new "math techniques" open a door for increased confusion. I am now looking for tutoring familiar with math techniques used in school today that can take the time and assist Michelle. It is my main concern that Michelle be able to gain the knowledge and understanding needed to gain confidence in her ability to complete math problems going forward throughout her educational tenure. Thank you.
What are your greatest hopes for your student?
My greatest hopes are that she will gain confidence in her ability to perform and complete math equations, through the assistance of a patient tutor. An individual that Michelle will have no problem with asking questions and pointing out her confusion or lack of understanding. This would be excellent progression that we could build upon over the next few years.
