Please describe your student and why you qualify for tutoring.
Christian AKA CJ was adopted 6 years ago with his biological sister from foster care. We lived in Philadelphia until 3 years ago when I relocated to Florida after my divorce for new job. When he came into my home he was educational behind however the additional educational resources that he was provided up in Philadelphia allowed him to catch up significantly however not completely. CJ is really good with his hands and numbers. He continues to struggle with comprehension. Last year I decided to hold him back in 5th grade again hoping this will provide him the opportunity to catch up. Although maturity this has been a benefit reading comprehension he still is struggling. He is testing at 4th grade level. I did outside testing trying to determine if he needs to be enrolled in special education. Although his reading comprehension was low his IQ and other testing reflect normal ranges. CJ is diagnosed with ADHD and often lacks focus even though he is prescribed medications. I am full time single mom raising 2 children. I work in Health care field and my hours are longer than normal so setting him up with outside tutoring that's not online will be a struggle with my work hours. I know the additional support will make CJ successful and what I am providing him at home seems to frustrate him instead of assist. He takes better direction from outsider then mom.....
