Please describe your student and why you qualify for tutoring.
Tyler is turning 12 this October. He has a 10 month old brother and another brother due in August 2018. He loves playing outside with his sports toys and his dog Oakley. He has suffered significant abuse by his biological father but is currently working with a trauma therapist. He has struggled with possible adhd but they're trying to rule out trauma related behaviors before diagnosing him.
What are your greatest hopes for your student?
For him to be comfortable and confident in himself and his abilities and at the appropriate level for his age.
What are you most grateful for?
My husband and children
Please describe specifically what your student needs help with.
He missed a lot of school from age 8-10 due to being kidnapped by his biological father. I just received full custody 1.5 years ago and he is now in therapy but struggles with being grade levels behind his peers. He's now almost 12 and entering 6th grade but is reading at 4th grade (6-8 year old) reading level. I want to catch him up as much as possible over summer.
According to the student, how can we make the world a better place?
People not doing drugs
