Please describe your student and why you qualify for tutoring.
Thaelyn is an energetically creative 9 year old. Thaelyn obsessed over creating things using his Legos and drawing. Thaelyn is analytical and really tries when he is being rewarded and praised. Thaelyn has a twin sister. Thaelyn' s sister was promoted to 4th grade and although this is great for her, Thaelyn is sad because unfortunately he was not. Thaelyn has struggled for sometime even with encouraging support from his mommy, siblings and other love ones. He is currently 2 grades behind because he also repeated first grade. Thaelyn needs help staying focused and on task. His attention wonders at times as he can be easily distracted by others. The family moved to Texas 1 month prior to experiencing Hurricane Harvey. Going to school became a challenge because we were displaced and resided in a hotel for 2 months. This experience was life changing to say the least. On top of trying to find new home Thaelyn also had to face the challenge of becoming acclimated to new teachers/students during that difficult time. I strongly believe that this program will benefit Thaelyn and provide him with an environment that will eliminate or minimize any distractions. My hope is that he is taught to appreciate the unknown, because once you know it, you know it!
What are your greatest hopes for your student?
That he finds confidence to keep trying even at those things that appear to be "too hard."
What are you most grateful for?
Please describe specifically what your student needs help with.
My brother struggle severely because of dyslexia. He failed 1st grade as well as 3rd. Thaelyn doesn't comprehend the text after reading. It may take him 3 or 4 times before he is able to grasp a full understanding of just a fragment of a passage. He struggles with writing complete thoughts or sentences because of his low ability to read. Thaelyn fails at other subjects like math, science and social studies as these subjects require, you've guessed it, "reading."
According to the student, how can we make the world a better place?
We can make the world a better place by taking away pollution.
What is the student's favorite book?
The Giving Tree.
What does the student want to 'learn to be' when they grow up?
I want to learn to be an archeologist when I grow up.
