Syracuse University uses OrgSync to empower the work of its student organizations. Learn To Be Foundation also utilizes OrgSync for its new tutor intake process. Those currently associated with Syracuse University may apply via a more streamlined and condensed procedure available through the Learn To Be (L2B) organization portal within the Syracuse University community umbrella on OrgSync. The process described below fully replaces the generic Tutor Application process of the Learn To Be Foundation.

Application Process Part A: Self-Guided Checklist

  1. Join our Facebook group.
  2. Use your @syr.edu email to take our certification test(s). We recommend all three, and especially the math, but you can choose:
    • Math: The questions aren't difficult but they are tricky. Please read each question closely. Most LTB sessions are in math.
    • Science: This is our easiest test, but we set the bar high. Passing is 90%. Be careful!
    • Langauge Arts: Choose the most technically correct answer. Pay close attention or you will fail the exam!
  3. Sign in to OrgSync for Syracuse University with the same email you took the tests with.
  4. When we receive the application, we will look up your test scores and set up a tutoring account for you.
  5. If you do not receive a decision by email within 3 days, email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Application Process Part B: Information & Training

Part B may be completed any time before, during, or after the completion of Part A.

Please email Michael Hu at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or call/text (513) 376-3393 to find out about upcoming Part B options.

By embarking on the tutor certification journey, you are not obligated to tutor for us. It can be merely informational and you can stop your involvement at any time.

A meeting for Part B may be conducted online, in person one-on-one, or with a group. It may take 30 minutes to an hour:

  1. Your assigned recruiter will introduce you to the mission of Learn To Be and how we plan to achieve that mission.
  2. You will receive a guided tour of the Learn To Be active sessions and of the features on our interactive whiteboard.
  3. There will be a discussion on how to handle certain uncomfortable situations / tough scenarios.
  4. You will be asked to tutor a mock session and you will be evaluated for your communication skills.
  5. Feedback will be given based on your performance during the mock tutoring session.

Before you receive your own account, Michael can sponsor a demo account for you. Feel free to ask.

For Successful Candidates

In addition to picking up sessions from our on-demand tutoring system, you can also ask to be partnered up with a specific student.

While logged in to learntobe.org, you can schedule for email notifications. Note: the schedule is in Pacific Time.
