Join our Volunteer Community and Tutor a Child

Our tutors are peer-tutor and are mostly high-performing high school or college students, and many studies show that peer or near-peer tutoring is extra effective, allowing struggling students to feel connected and open to learning.

11 million live in poverty.

Many families can’t afford or lack access to private tutoring, which is usually $20-$100 per hour. With academic support, these students can expand their opportunities and dream bigger dreams.

We don’t think a family’s income level should impact their child’s access to learning.

  • Several new studies have shown troubling data suggesting these pandemic related setbacks in learning will affect non-white and economically disadvantaged children for the rest of their lives, resulting in lower lifetime earnings and fewer job opportunities. 1
  • The good news is that while it appears the academic effects of the pandemic are widespread and will be long-lasting, especially among already marginalized students, there are several ways to help mitigate these impacts. Tutoring appears to be one very effective way.2,3 LTB is proud to be part of the solution!

Stories From Our Tutors

I love tutoring at Learn To Be. We now have Zoom, with recordings, and we have messaging through the site. There is a streamlined process for making first appointments and weekly appointments. There is a consistent flow of new students. There is a neat, easy framework for finding out when students and tutors are available. I really appreciate all of these things, and I find it much easier to deal with administrative details than used to be the case. Thank you so much!

Reading Tutor

I am enjoying tutoring very much! Of course sometimes a student won't understand everything, but when you finally get to a point where the student is learning things a little bit quicker everyone is happy! I have two wonderful students who are very polite and kind... I really do appreciate everything you all do for our students. You guys put in a lot of work to make everyone feel safe and comfortable and it is very much appreciated!

Math Tutor

I really liked how the training led us through the website and the portal, because I was having trouble understanding how to navigate the portal initially, so that was super helpful!

Michael

Writing Tutor

My student has great thoughts and ideas -- especially when we discuss the depths of short stories -- which is really helpful for me in understanding his strengths and weaknesses with reading and comprehension.
