"King was an 8-year-old 3rd grader failing reading and math, on the verge of repeating the grade despite being a super hard worker. When his father applied to Learn To Be, he shared that he was a single dad who hadn't finished high school, had just lost his job, and wanted nothing more than to set King up for success. At the time, King was reading at a kindergarten level. In March, he was matched with a tutor named Isabella, and after about 25 hours of one-on-one tutoring, his reading grade rose from an F to a C+. Even more meaningful, King started reading for fun—something his dad never thought possible—and called the progress 'nothing short of amazing.'"

The first session she could barely read the word can and by about 30 hours, she was able to read her first sentence without my help. "My student Lila started with us in January. She was a freshman, failing algebra, and she did not know her multiplication or division facts at all. A year later, she passed algebra (scored an 80 on regents exam). Now she has an 85 in geometry. And, now she knows her facts! We are working on speeding her up a bit.
