A few stories on how a few hours of tutoring can change a life.
"Junior is a 7th grader reading at a Kindergarten level. He joined Learn To Be and we paired him with a reading specialist and after about 5 hours, his teacher reached out to say this: 'Well! We read in class today and junior read a poem stanza he would not have been able to read before. A few stumbles but HE SOUNDED THEM OUT INSTEAD OF GIVING UP and looking helpless!!!'"
"The impact that Learn to Be has had on the students I have tutored is genuinely inspiring. I remember one particular child on the verge of being held back in third grade. He was struggling not only with his academics but also with his confidence. After working closely with him an hour a week for 2 months, helping him with English Language Arts, and finding engaging ways to connect with the material, such as storytelling and interactive games, he showed significant improvement. It was an incredible moment when he passed third grade! Seeing his face light up with joy made me realize how much of a difference I could make in a child's life. It was a rewarding experience that filled me with pride, knowing I'd played a part in his academic success."
"King was an 8-year-old 3rd grader failing reading and math, on the verge of repeating the grade despite being a super hard worker. When his father applied to Learn To Be, he shared that he was a single dad who hadn't finished high school, had just lost his job, and wanted nothing more than to set King up for success. At the time, King was reading at a kindergarten level. In March, he was matched with a tutor named Isabella, and after about 25 hours of one-on-one tutoring, his reading grade rose from an F to a C+. Even more meaningful, King started reading for fun—something his dad never thought possible—and called the progress 'nothing short of amazing.'"
"I tutored a student who had ADHD and autism who struggled with reading. The student was in high school reading at a pre-k level. The first session she could barely read the word can and by about 30 hours, she was able to read her first sentence without my help. She started tutoring embarrassed to read out loud because kids at school would bully her and before she left tutoring was reading out loud comfortably with me."
"My student Lila started with us in January. She was a freshman, failing algebra, and she did not know her multiplication or division facts at all. A year later, she passed algebra (scored an 80 on regents exam). Now she has an 85 in geometry. And, now she knows her facts! We are working on speeding her up a bit. Learn To Be made all of the above happen!"
