It was a sunny Saturday morning in the small town of Sweetville. Nine-year-old Lily was excited because it was her best friend Emma's birthday, and Lily's mom had promised to bake some delicious chocolate cupcakes for the party.

Lily woke up early and hurried downstairs to the kitchen, but when she got there, she couldn't believe her eyes. The plate of freshly baked cupcakes had vanished! Lily searched high and low, but the cupcakes were nowhere to be found.

"Mom, the cupcakes are gone!" Lily cried. Her mom came running in, equally surprised. "That's strange," she said. "I just took them out of the oven a few minutes ago. I wonder what could have happened to them."

Lily knew she had to solve this mystery before Emma's party started. She decided to investigate, starting with the kitchen. As she looked around, she noticed some crumbs on the floor near the counter. Lily bent down to get a closer look and spotted a small, furry paw print.

"Aha!" she exclaimed. "I bet it was Buddy, our mischievous puppy, who ate the cupcakes!" Lily quickly found Buddy napping in the living room, his belly looking a little round. Crisis averted, Lily's mom quickly baked a new batch of cupcakes, and the party was a sweet success.
