Ricardo's Big Math Test Challenge

Ricardo stared at the math test on his desk. His stomach felt tight. He had studied hard all week, but now his mind felt blank. Around him, other fifth graders scribbled answers confidently. He took a deep breath and read the first problem carefully.

The first few questions were about fractions, which Ricardo had practiced with his dad. He solved them step by step, just like they had done together. His confidence grew. Then he reached problem seven, a tricky word problem about sharing pizza slices. Ricardo almost panicked, but he remembered his teacher's advice: read it twice and draw a picture.

Ricardo sketched a pizza and divided it into sections. Suddenly, the answer became clear. He continued through the test, using everything he had learned. Some problems were easy, others were harder, but he didn't give up. He checked his work twice before raising his hand to turn it in.

Two days later, Mrs. Chen handed back the tests. Ricardo nervously opened his paper. Across the top in red marker was a big "A minus" with a smiley face. His heart jumped with joy. He had done it! Ricardo realized that studying, asking for help, and staying calm had made the difference.

Walking home, Ricardo felt proud. School challenges seemed less scary now. He knew that with effort and determination, he could handle anything thrown his way.
