Maya was a girl who loved to learn. But she felt scared when it was time to read. She thought she could not do it.
One day, Maya's teacher gave her a small book. It had big words and pretty pictures. Maya took a deep breath and opened it.
The first word was "cat." Maya sounded it out slowly. C-a-t. She said it! She felt happy.
Maya found more words she knew. "The" and "and" were sight words she had learned. She was reading a real sentence!
Some words were hard. But Maya did not give up. She asked her teacher for help.
Her teacher smiled and said, "You are trying so hard. That is what matters most." Maya felt proud.
Every day, Maya read a little bit more. She got faster and faster. Her confidence grew bigger each time.
Soon, Maya finished her whole book. She read it all by herself! Her friends clapped and cheered.
Maya learned something important. Hard things become easier when you keep trying. She was brave and strong.
Now Maya loves to read. She helps other kids who feel scared too. Maya knows they can do it!
