It was a sunny Tuesday morning at Franklin Elementary School. Alex, a curious third-grader, couldn't wait to dig into his favorite peanut butter and jelly sandwich during lunch. But when he opened his lunchbox, it was gone! He looked around, confused, and noticed that his friend Lily's lunchbox was missing too.
"Lily, did you see what happened to our lunchboxes?" Alex asked, his eyes wide with concern. Lily shook her head, just as puzzled. The two friends decided to investigate the mystery together.
They searched high and low, asking their classmates if they had seen anything unusual. No one seemed to know what had happened to the missing lunchboxes. Just as they were about to give up, Alex noticed a trail of crumbs leading down the hallway.
Eager to solve the puzzle, Alex and Lily followed the crumbs, which led them to the school's custodian, Mr. Jenkins. To their surprise, Mr. Jenkins was happily munching on their sandwiches!
"Mr. Jenkins, did you take our lunchboxes?" Lily asked, hands on her hips. Mr. Jenkins looked sheepish and admitted that he had been feeling hungry and couldn't resist the tempting treats.
Alex and Lily were relieved to have solved the mystery, and they even convinced Mr. Jenkins to replace their lunchboxes with new ones. From that day on, they made sure to keep a close eye on their belongings during lunchtime.
