My name is Larry Gevirtz, and I'm a retired teacher from New York City.  I've been involved with LearnToBe for several years now, and have achieved over 450 hours of tutoring with various students during that time.  I find that LearnToBe stands out among other tutoring services for several reasons, from the perspedtive of both the tutor and the tutee.  First of all, tutees get high-quality help without having to pay the exorbitant fees that many tutors today charge.  The program makes available many online resources that tutors and students can use to enhance their learning sessions, which is a major plus.  From the tutor's standpoint, even though he or she does not get monetary payback, there are other important sources of compensation for the dedicated tutor.  For one thing, the tutor is not forced to pair with unknown students who might be totally mismatched with his interests.  Rather, the tutor can select whom to work with from a list of students, described in terms of their needs and personalities.  This usually results in more harmonious pairings.  Also, tutors are asked to give feedback after each session, and have the opportunity to express concerns to the administators, who then follow up on them.  As mentioned above, tutors can make use of various online support aids to enhance their lessons, and LearnToBe makes it easy to stay in touch with students, as well as sending reminders before a session is about to begin.  Furthermore, there are occasional incentives, such as letters of recommendation and free t-shirts for tutors who have spent significant time working with students.  Above all is the reward of receiving positive feedback from satisfied parents of students who were helped, and the joy of seeing students light up with new comprehension of the material that had earlier baffled them.  I therefore am most grateful to LearnToBe for providing me with the opportunity to help students all over the country via Zoom, and to get the needed support to make the tutoring sessions productive and effective.
