Four months ago, I began tutoring a 6 year-old girl five days a week in reading. After just one month, her teacher was impressed with how much her reading ability improved. After three months she asked if we could do math. I checked with mom about doing math with her and mom was so thrilled! I started working with the girl in math and she took off like a lightning bolt! After a couple of weeks, I realized that she was getting bored with the single digit addition and started teaching her double digit addition. She doesn’t hesitate to go get paper and pencil when doing her math. She is very particular about writing everything down as we work through the process of solving problems. Oh, and I don’t want to forget about her 8 or 9 siblings with one being younger than her. She definitely does not have ADHD as she stays extremely focused on her work and has no problem telling her siblings to be quiet. It’s almost like tutoring a student in a one room schoolhouse!🤣 Mom said that all of the children play school with each other and their dolls as they have an abundance of workbooks and reading books at home. My student wants to be really smart when she goes to first grade. Mom said she has won the most likely to become a teacher award for 3k/pre-k. Mom has also been told that she is getting the same award for kindergarten!
