When introducing an Order of Operations worksheet to my student, she expressed confusion and discomfort while I demonstrated the first problem. We began with only addition, subtraction, and parantheses. However, by the end of our 50-minute session, she had learned how to do exponents--a completely new concept to her--and the different types of grouping (GEMDAS). By the end of another 1 hour session, she had added multiplication and division to the expressions. We ended our session by returning back to the original worksheet. She was able to solve every single problem!
