This nonprofit is completely different from anywhere else I have volunteered at! I am a sophomore and started tutoring as a freshman. I can visibly find myself having more patience and understanding since starting with Learn To Be. I am tutoring 2 sisters right now who are at different grade levels and strengths, so I have to adapt to both of them and plan not just what I teach, but how I teach and how to let them understand the concepts. Last session my younger student finally grasped the concept of adding and subtracting fractions and the level of satisfaction and genuine excitement you get for them is amazing and can't be replicated.
I want to say, if there's any new tutors reading this, not every session will go well. My first session was a little hectic because I was new to tutoring! As I tutored more, I learned skills like personalizing lessons, using tools to yours/your students strengths and character strengths like being a good leader (showing them what to do, but being encouraging). I now have accumulated 40 hours since January and it is the most rewarding volunteer experience. Thank you LTB
Every $5 you donate funds one full hour of focused, one-on-one tutoring for a student who needs it most. Just a few hours of personalized support can help a struggling reader discover the joy of books, boost a student's confidence in math, or unlock their potential for academic success. Your gift doesn't just fund tutoring—it funds hope, progress, and brighter futures.
